CALC / CLEAN — Descale prompt
What the machine is reporting
If you notice that the Calc/Clean light is on steadily or the machine displays a prompt for descaling, this indicates the time to descale your Philips Espresso Machine has arrived.
Likely causes, most likely first
- Scale accumulation has reached the machine's descale interval
- AquaClean filter cycles exhausted (descaling is still required after 8 filter cycles)
What to do
- 1. Use Philips descaler only (Descaling solution CA6700). Do not use products with sulfuric, hydrochloric, sulfamic, or acetic acid (vinegar) — these damage the machine and void the warranty.
- 2. Empty the drip tray and grounds container and remove the AquaClean filter from the water tank.
- 3. Add the Philips descaler to the water tank as directed for your series.
- 4. Start the CALC CLEAN cycle from the machine and let it run without interruption (it can take up to 30 minutes).
- 5. Complete the separate rinsing cycle when prompted.
- 6. Install a new AquaClean filter and activate it.
