Espresso Grinder Not Feeding or Jammed: Causes and Fixes

A grinder that runs but delivers little or no coffee is usually bridging in the hopper, where the beans arch over the throat and stop falling. Tap the hopper wall and watch through the plastic: if the level drops as soon as you disturb it, that is your answer, and dark oily beans plus a low hopper level make it much more likely. If the motor labours or stops instead, the cause is different. Beans that will not turn usually mean something hard is jammed between the burrs, and a stone or a piece of packaging is common enough to check for before anything else. Grind settings that have been pushed too fine can also stall the motor or trip its overload protection. Empty the hopper and work through the chain in order.
